There sure are a lot of tunnels here in Lyckeby in Sweden, so I do indeed get quite a few tunnel visions on my walks with my dog Lisen around here. Like the ones below for instance.
The Lyckeby River here in Sweden was absolutely stunning this morning. It looked like a giant, oblong mirror filled with reflections of its neighbors. An irresistible photo opportunity in other words! So below are some photos of how Lyckeby River played with the sunshine earlier today.
Yesterday was a beautiful sunny, yet chilly Saturday here in Lyckeby in Sweden. But I love cold and bright mornings. So I took my dog Lisen for a long lovely walk along the old retired train track here in Lyckeby. Now Lisen and I walk along this train track all the time, on the sidewalk next to it of course. But for some reason my eyes were drawn to the train track more than usual yesterday. Therefore I pulled out my iphone and snapped some shots of it, and of my dog Lisen too of course. So below are some photos of what Lisen and I saw yesterday.
Now this train track is actually an old industrial train track that stretches 6,4 kilometers from Gullberna to Verkö harbour in Karlskrona. The train track was built in the late 1960s, finished in 1971.
But even though this train track was refurbished in 2008, it is very rarely used nowadays.
Which was why I felt pretty safe to let my dog Lisen take a little breather next to it yesterday. :-)
Walpurgis Eve is of course celebrated on April 30th here in Sweden. It is a celebration where we welcome spring by lighting bonfires all over Sweden. However, due to drought this year the Walpurgis bonfire here in Lyckeby in Sweden was canceled. So I have seen the original Walpurgis Eve pile of junk, also known as The Walpurgis Eve Bonfire, grow ever since. And I was beginning to think it would never get to do its intended job this year - to burn. But then yesterday it happened!
As my dog Lisen and I were out on one of our many walks we happened to come across this. It was lit!!! Yay! So even though we had a very late Walpurgis Eve Bonfire this year, at least I got to see it. :-)
Which means that mornings are now officially freezing cold here in Lyckeby in Sweden! At 9 AM today the temperature was about +3°C outside. Brrr I say! But at least it was a frosty, calm and sunny morning though. Instead of windy or rainy for example. So Lisen and I did manage to have a very nice, but chilly, morning walk. And I of course had to take some photos of the frost in Lyckeby. :p
Although I do wish I had had my other camera with me on this walk, the Canon one. So I could have used that one instead of my iphone to take these photos. But I really never think I will find much to photograph on routine walks. Even though it is usually on such walks I notice changes in nature, or other unusual things. So I must learn to remember this! Always have the Canon camera with you Alex!
My doggy Lisen (in the photo) and I had a lovely evening walk here in Lyckeby in Sweden today.
Lisen is in heat right now so she always becomes super happy whenever it is time for a walk. The reason being of course that she hopes to find a suitable male doggy for herself outside. Although, unfortunately for her, I never let her say hello to any male doggies when she is in heat. Hehe.
Also for some reason when she is in this particular phase of her heat period she gets very obsessed with her leash. Outside she wants to carry it by herself. Inside she walks around with it in her mouth and whines. I am sure she has her reasons, but this is one of her behaviors I have not been able to figure out...
Oh well, below are some more photos from our evening walk in Lyckeby today. :p
This is the path in Ekebacken nature reserve where Lisen and I started our evening walk.
We followed the path until we got to to these stairs.
Which lead us to this area in Lyckeby. Where Lisen always find a lot of smells to analyze.
When Lisen finally got her nose up from the ground again we continued to walk here.
Until we got back to the beginning of our walk. We live in the yellow building there. And the path next to it was the one we started our walk from.
But before we could finish our walk Lisen had to make sure not to miss any important smells. And in the right photo she probably thought I should stop to photograph her and get my behind in the elevator. Lol!
This past Saturday it was once again time for our yearly St. Jacobi market here in Lyckeby in Sweden. A small market that has been held since 1909 in Lyckeby, where I live. This year I managed to arrive at the market just in time for the parade. Yay! I had never seen the St. Jacobi parade before. And what a cute parade! It had such a small town feel to it. Cozy and fun without any fancy decorations. Now I did bring my camera but in the last minute I decided to film it instead. So below is my video of this years St. Jacobi market parade. :-)
This morning my doggy Lisen and I bumped into this funny looking caravan in the parking lot here in Lyckeby, Sweden. Not the most common sight around here. Actually I have never seen a caravan looking like this one before. Hm...
I wonder if this caravan is owned by Swedes, or foreigners who like Sweden? Hehe. :p
Even though I live in quite a small suburb called Lyckeby, a few kilometres outside of Karlskrona in Sweden, there sure are a lot of things to see around here! Like:
Lyckeby river. Lyckeby river is a 90 kilometres long river that flows through south-eastern Småland and East Blekinge in Sweden. And I pass this river many times around different places in Lyckeby on my walks with Lisen.
One of my favourite places to see this river is from this little bridge about 5 minutes from my home. And I love the sound of the waterfall here! I also really enjoy to see the water run through the mill.
So I recorded this panoramic view video from the bridge with the hopes of making Lyckeby river more vivid to you.
The Crown Mill (orange building) lies next to Lyckeby river. The bridge I recorded the video from is right behind the mill.
The Crown Mill info sign. Which is where I found out that:
Another interesting, and perhaps unexpected, fact about The Crown Mill in Lyckeby is that it's actually part of the World Heritage list. A list where the most outstanding cultural and natural environments in the world that are of great importance for all humanity, like the pyramids of Egypt, are included. (Find out more about the World Heritage list at: whc.unesco.org)
These are just two of the Lyckeby sights which make the small suburb of Lyckeby in Sweden a lot of fun to walk around in! At least I think so! :p
And on my walk with Lisen a few days ago we saw these camels, not exactly a common sight here in Lyckeby, Sweden. Lol! Of course they belonged to the visiting circus here, but still, looked pretty funny I thought. :p
A few days ago I walked with Lisen up in the nature reserve next to my apartment building. In this nature reserve, called Ekebacken (in Lyckeby, Sweden), is a fenced in area where sheep roam every summer. An area you are allowed to walk through. So when Lisen and I approached it I saw that this years sheep herd had arrived.
Usually sheep run away, or move at least, when they see Lisen coming. But not this time. Well, when they first saw us they started to get up and was about to move. But then they stopped, turned around and looked at us instead. And I felt this connection between us, like they knew we weren't dangerous. Everyone was so calm, including Lisen. So we just stared at each other for a little while before me and Lisen slowly walked away.
And I love moments like this! Interaction with nature and life. Not a word was spoken, but yet so much was said. Beautiful! :-)
Yesterday I saw a carnival under construction here in Lyckeby, right across from where I live. Usually a carnival means there is a market around the corner, and I had no idea it was market time again here in Lyckeby. I had not seen any signs or ads about one, so I looked it up.
It turns out there is indeed a market this Saturday and it's simply called "Spring market in Lyckeby". It's a yearly event which is held to celebrate spring. Hm? My memory must be a bit "out of order" because I can't remember a spring market here in Lyckeby last year... I know there was a market at the end of summer, but spring...? Lol!
Anyway, if you are in (or around) my neighbourhood this Saturday between 09:00-16:00, come on by and check it out. I know I will! :p
But there is still some way to go before this carnival is up and running. (These pics are from this morning.) It usually takes about 4-5 days to build this carnival, and then of course it takes about 4-5 days to take the whole thing down again. And I always think it's so much work for a few hours of fun. But I guess it must pay off somehow, because they keep coming back. Hehe.
