Fruits and flowers along the way
July 22, 2011 4:35 PM

Lately the Swedish weather has been dominated by clouds and rain. Not the perfect summer conditions, but a pretty great weather combination for Lisen and I to walk in. So yesterday we went on a 6k walk to visit my sister. Along the way grew lots of lovely colorful flowers and wild fruits like cherries, raspberries and apples. In other words - it was a perfect photo opportunity for me! :p

At the start of the main road of fruits and flowers.

Cherries.

Yum for me! Yuck for Lisen.

Raspberries.

Another yum for me! Not so much for Lisen.

Rowanberries. Hm. More beautiful than yum for either of us, hehe.

Lovely wildflowers! Not sure what they are called though...

Ahhh!

Not sure if you can see it but the raspberries (bottom middle) grow right next to the wildflowers and rowanberries.

And here we are a bit further down the road where apple trees grow.

Big apple trees!

Packed with apples. Not ready to eat yet though.

My good doggy Lisen. Who had to do a lot of waiting along the way because I took so many photos. Oh well, I'm sure she didn't mind (too much). And in the end we arrived safely at my sisters where we had a nice visit. So it was a "fruitful" day indeed! :p

Fallen tree
July 14, 2011 7:44 PM

Today I decided to take Lisen to the forest. However, we didn't get very far...

Because of this fallen tree... I actually got out of the car to try and pull it aside. But nope, I couldn't even pull it an inch! Lol! Nothing else to do but reverse the car about 100 metres to the beginning of the forest road and start our walk from there instead. Lisen looked a bit confused when I had to reverse all the way back.

So when we got to the fallen tree she decided to conduct a complete inspection of it.

Hm..

I also decided to do a little inspection of the fallen tree.

Meaning a few close ups with my camera. Hehe.

But despite the tree roadblock and constant pouring rain we did indeed have a fun visit to the forest today. :p

Sheep shot, silent conversation
May 21, 2011 1:14 PM

A few days ago I walked with Lisen up in the nature reserve next to my apartment building. In this nature reserve, called Ekebacken (in Lyckeby, Sweden), is a fenced in area where sheep roam every summer. An area you are allowed to walk through. So when Lisen and I approached it I saw that this years sheep herd had arrived.

Usually sheep run away, or move at least, when they see Lisen coming. But not this time. Well, when they first saw us they started to get up and was about to move. But then they stopped, turned around and looked at us instead. And I felt this connection between us, like they knew we weren't dangerous. Everyone was so calm, including Lisen. So we just stared at each other for a little while before me and Lisen slowly walked away.

And I love moments like this! Interaction with nature and life. Not a word was spoken, but yet so much was said. Beautiful! :-)

Spring and struggle
March 31, 2011 3:49 PM

Today I finally saw some bloomed wild flowers on my walk with Lisen, yay! This to me symbolizes that it's now officially spring here in Sweden.

Here they are. These flowers are called Snödroppar in Swedish, meaning Snow drops. And I love the flower in front in the pic. Because most of the Snow drops here grew in groups, except this one. It proudly stood all alone in front of all the other Snow drops. Like a little flower guard.

Which can be seen more clearly in this pic. I found it cool anyway, hehe.

So I said I saw these flowers on my "walk" with Lisen. Well, she is not much in the mood for long walks these days. This is because she is now in her post heat cycle, which means she believes she is pregnant for about two months. And at this moment she just wants to be home and rest. But I try to drag her along on walks anyway.

And this is how it looks...

Car trouble and rainbow
March 11, 2011 5:49 PM

At lunch time today I got in my car, turned the key, all the lights on my dash board lit up - but not even a tiny noise from the car engine! Grrr! What the... And I have no idea why this happened??? Because my car worked just fine the last time I drove it...

Oh well, no way was my dead car engine going to ruin my plans for today. And luckily for me, my sister was able to leave her baking for about 30 minutes to give me a lift into town. Thanks sis! :-) So I met up with my mum as planned, had some yummy Thai buffet, did some shopping and then headed back home again to my car headache...

Now hopefully I can get someone to take a look at my car this weekend. It's really no hurry. But even though I'm not completely dependent on a car, I still find it extremely annoying when these type of unexpected things happen! So I hope for a speedy resolution to this problem.

And although this car thing has taken up most of my thoughts today. I did see a lovely rainbow break through the rain clouds on my way home from town. An image I think is a lot more fun to begin the weekend with, than one of my uncooperative Volvo.

So here is the rainbow. :-)

Moose encounter in Rödeby
December 19, 2010 5:29 PM

Cool! We have been house sitting at my mums this weekend and I thought I'd take some pics of all the snow outside. So we (me, my sister and dogs) were outside playing around in the snow, when all of a sudden Diva started barking and ran to the fence. And there she was, a moose cow, I think it was a young female moose. I have no idea were she came from, but she was not very afraid of our barking dogs. We stared at each other for a while. Then the moose decided to jump into a neighbours garden! Luckily for me I had my iphone with me! Wahoo! So here are some pics and videos from our encounter today.

First pic: Diva discovering the moose and letting us know about it. Second pic: the moose.

In the first video clip:
the moose wandering towards a neighbours garden. And in the second video clip: the moose jumps into the neighbours garden!

The color of nature
October 7, 2010 18:10

I love fall! And mostly because of what you see in the pic above. Like I have said before, "Beauty is everywhere, you just have to open your eyes!". And I mean it! I truly love and appreciate all these wonderful natural surroundings I get to enjoy and be part of on a daily basis.

Actually, for me, the best way to keep things that are going on in my life in perspective, is to pay attention to who really has all the power in this world. I mean come on, I'm about as powerful and big as an ant is to us, in comparison to nature and all her natural forces. Something I am reminded of on days like these, in the forest. When I see what our nature can accomplish!

And I'm very thankful I have Lisen, because I'm not sure how often I would get my butt into the forest and have my little realization moments without her!? In fact, I would probably not have taken this pic if I hadn't had a doggie who needed to run around in the forest yesterday.

Hm...I guess I'm feeling pretty thankful today, haha! Might as well take this opportunity to thank all of you who have joined my official Facebook page then :-) I truly appreciate you all!!!

Is the Earth spinning faster or what?
September 16, 2010 14:39

Yiax, I can't believe how fast this week has gone...Ok, not over yet but it's already Thursday! Seriously, has somebody pressed a fast forward button? Hm...Anyway, I'm STILL working on my Swedish pages, currently on Swedish traditions. And I of course want to include my favourite ones with some history and pictures, which takes time. But I'd rather spend that extra time on it to get it done properly!

And while I have been busy with my traditions, it's been rainy and windy most of the week here in Karlskrona, and fall has pretty much arrived. However, I like fall, especially the amazing transformations of colours on leaves in all the trees! It's insane how beautiful our nature is! The downside though, these cold, windy and wet days...

Now back to working on some more traditions before I'm off to work (that I actually get paid for, lol!).

Old surroundings
August 4, 2010 20:24

So I live in an apartment building with 16 apartments and where the average age is around 60-80 years old. I am by far the youngest person in the building... Right outside my windows is a several hundred years old nature reserve filled with grand oak-trees and animals. Sounds nice right? Well many of my friends and family tease me about this and think I should move someplace where there is more "action". Hm…not me though, I love it here!

I love my apartment, I love my neighbours and I love the nature and calmness that comes with it. Now of course, I don't plan to stay here forever, haha. But the next time I move, it will be to a big stone house :-)

Left: View from my window. Right: This is how it looks up the road.

Left: There are a lot of lurking paths up there. Right: Lisen and I bumped into this very cocky cat today. It would not budge and I had to take a big detour around it with a struggling, half choking, hanging in the leash Lisen. And once we finally passed the cat, they just wanted to stare at each other...

Wet, wet, wet
July 24, 2010 18:02

Tropical heat followed by pouring rain. Not a traditional Swedish summer, but it is what it is.

And it feels like I've been wet all day...morning walk in the rain, Jacuzzi, shower. Because it's still raining outside I'm sure once I'm dry, it's time to take out my doggie and...that's right - get wet again.

Simple luxury :-)

I must love to torture myself...
July 13, 2010 20:04

Yet again a tropical day in Sweden. And I, yet again, went on my morning walk in this stifling heat. With me was, as usual (forced by contract), my mum and her partner. Today we also had a guest starring on our "torturewalk", my sister, yay! However, considering todays experience, I don't think she will make a second appearance anytime soon...

We walked in the forests of Rödeby, and of course, as in any forest, there are animals and BUGS! So not only is it beyond hot, but while we are walking flies keep buzzing around us all the time! Two days ago I was about half a meter from stepping on a big black snake...But regarding those flies, I don't get why the have to fly as close to the face and ears as possible, grrr! However, on a good note, I did see a qute squirrel today :-)

I have worked all day with getting up some more pictures. Check out "Photoalbum" in the menu, lots of pix from Aussieland.

And here are some pictures from our walk, and buggfighting today.

Here we all are, walking different paces.

A disgusting fly on right under my nose, blah!

/A.L

Here is the qute squirrel, a bit blurry...

Behind me Madde is running from a bee, haha.
