Persian cooking lesson with mum
February 22, 2011 8:48 PM

I love Persian food! And when I grew up I ate a lot of it, because my mum is Persian. But I have not yet learned how to cook all my favourite Persian dishes. So this past Sunday it was time for my dear mum to teach me how to cook "Persian rice balls". I know that's not the correct name for this dish, but that's what I call it. Hehe. Actually, it's more of a side than a main dish I would say.

Now, as a child I only had the opportunity to eat "Persian rice balls" at Persian dinner parties over at a family friends house. Our friend, a Persian lady, was the only one who ever cooked this dish. And I never knew why until this past Sunday. Mum explained that this dish is a local speciality from the Persian city where our friend grew up. She also told me that it was this lovely lady who taught her how to cook "Persian rice balls", not Grandma (as I had assumed). And even though this dish take more time than I normally spend on cooking, it is so worth it!

Step 1. Everyone - take places!

Me - stove. Diva and Lisen - as close to the stove as possible.

Step 2. Prepare

Cook Jasmine rice, season with turmeric and salt. Fry lamb mince and chopped onions, season with salt, pepper, turmeric and dried lime.

Step 3. Roll 'em

This is the tricky and time consuming part. Just make sure they don't fall apart. And I know, they don't exactly look like balls. Haha.

Step 4. Fry 'em

Last step is to fry them. Either in a fryer or in a frying pan. If you want to put them in the freezer, do not fry before freezing.

And finally my favourite part - EAT 'EM! I like to season my "Persian rice balls" with some herb salt, yuuuummy!!! :p

Basmati rice in Persian rice cooker
October 2, 2010 17:42

When I eat rice, I always eat Basmati rice! And I love to cook my rice in my Persian rice cooker! Yes it's easy, just set the timer, pour in water, fat, rice and press "on". But mostly I love the crunchy crust you get with the Persian rice cooker! Yum!!!

So what do you think of the food I eat? Gross or tasty? :-)

Labour day
July 30, 2010 20:12

Today I have been a busy bee, hehe. Went to mums to help her with some carpentry, OK I'll be honest, I didn't really do that much carpentry. But I hammered a few nails and sawed some wooden planks :-) always something. It's not really my forté, the nails just bend all the time and my sawing isn't the most even, but at least I tried to help :-)

Some pics from today.

Here is Diva hiding in the bushes. And to the right some delicious Persian food, yum!
