Rock Puzzles
April 29, 2012 5:57 PM

I find it very fascinating how huge, hard, solid rocks can end up on top of each other and perfectly fit into each others shapes. Like huge rock puzzles. I also find it fascinating that I, who have walked in Rödeby forest here in Sweden many, many times, have not paid attention to the fact we actually have a lof of rock puzzles there. So yesterday while I was in Rödeby forest with my dog Lisen, I decided to capture some of them on camera. And below are photos of Rock Puzzles in Rödeby forest in Sweden.

My Stubborn Eyeglass Dog
April 27, 2012 4:05 PM

My dog Lisen loves to relax in the couch next to me while I am working on the computer, until she wants my attention for something. Which, nine out of ten times, means that she wants food.

And to get my attention Lisen has developed a few techniques. Her first step is to stare at me intensely. If that does not work, she starts to scratch me with her paws. If that does not work, she starts to bark at me. And if that does not work either, her last step is to climb up on top of my knees and put her head between me and my laptop. Which usually works.

Now Lisen is a very stubborn dog who does not give up her attempts to get what she wants very easily. But of course I cannot give her everything she wants. So sometimes I just start to mess with her in return, until she gets annoyed and leaves me alone. Like in the photos below, where Lisen was scratching me with her paws. So I decided to put my glasses on her pretty little nose, instead of just telling her no. Not a very popular move.

My Stubborn Eyeglass Dog
Really!?

My Stubborn Eyeglass Dog
I don't think so.

My Stubborn Eyeglass Dog
Hm, what else can I do to get what I want today?

Crazy Thoughts
April 24, 2012 9:47 PM

Crazy Thoughts

Normal people:
do things they don't want to do,
speak to people they don't like,
and say things they don't mean.

Crazy people:
do what they want,
say what they feel,
and mean what they say.

Actually,
a "normal" person,
is just a great liar.

And,
not that "crazy" is correct,
but at least it is authentic.

It certainly is,
a crazy world we live in.

History And Facts About Swedish Crisp Bread
April 20, 2012 7:57 PM

Crisp bread originates from Sweden and was first baked around the 500s. Crisp bread quickly became popular because people back then needed a sustainable bread that was easy to store for long, cold winters. And because crisp bread contains less than 10 percent water, its durability is very good.

Now crisp bread is a hard bread traditionally baked with whole grain rye flour, both coarse and fine. It is rolled out into thin, flat cakes and then baked in high heat for a short time. In the olden days, after the bread had been baked, they used to hang them out to dry in the ceiling.

And to be able to hang them, holes were put in the middle of the crisp bread.

Although it is of course possible to bake crisp bread at home, most people do buy them in stores today.

So there are many variations of crisp bread available in Swedish stores.

In many shapes and sizes.

So crisp bread is popular in Sweden. In fact, we eat nearly four kilos of crisp bread per person per year in Sweden. And 85 percent of Swedish households always have crisp bread at home. At typical Swedish holidays like Christmas and Midsummer, crisp bread is one of the typical Swedish foods we eat.

Popular spreads to have on crisp bread are typical swedish products like Kalles Caviar (in the photo) and pickled herring. But to simply eat crisp bread with butter is also very tasty and popular as well.

Now I actually do not eat crisp bread very often, but I do like it and I always have some at home. Because to me, it is really one of those given things to have in my kitchen cupboards, like flour or sugar. Which is why it should always be there, just in case I need some. :-)

Just A Little Sunshine
April 17, 2012 8:23 PM

It has rained, hailed, snowed and blowed outside here in Lyckeby in Sweden today. But in between showers, our lovely Lady Sun also made some appearances. And it is indeed a relief to know that she is always up there behind the clouds, regardless of how thick they are.

Because a little sunshine...

Just A Little Sunshine
... certainly has a lot of power.

A Quickie At Lyckeby Spring Market
April 14, 2012 12:40 PM

Today the yearly Lyckeby Spring Market take place right outside where I live here in Lyckeby in Sweden. It is a market to celebrate the arrival of spring. However, this year I cannot say that I am in a very spring celebratory mood at the moment. This is of course because it is still freezing outside, and it has been raining all week. But despite that though I could not resist going for a little quickie through the market on my morning walk with my dog Lisen. Who, by the way, is in heat at the moment. Therefore the only thing on her mind at the market (and all day long) was to search for male doggies. Hehe.

Anyway, below are some snaps from our Quickie At Lyckeby Spring Market this morning.

Food Fight
April 10, 2012 10:36 PM

These cute little, very fisty, birds put on quite the show outside by the food dispenser at my sister's a while back. And let me tell you, it was very easy to get caught up in their drama and chatter out there. In fact, I would certainly say that they were more entertaining and fun to watch than any TV-show for sure. It was also a perfect photo opportunity for me of course. So below are some photos of Food Fight. :p

Food Fight
Hey, leave some food for us too up there!

Food Fight
My turn!

Food Fight

And so the show continued.

Happy Easter From Sweden
April 7, 2012 10:09 PM

It is Easter Eve today here in Sweden, which to me nowadays means eating eggs, lamb steak dinner and lots of candy. All of which I have done today. So it has been a pretty successful Easter Eve so far I think.

Yummy eggs.

Easter Eve Dinner
And the rest of our Easter Eve dinner today. My mum is from Iran so she likes to mix in a bit of Persian cooking here and there. So besides lamb steak we also had some Persian food on the table today. From the left in the photo above: eggs, root vegetable gratin, Persian veggie omelet, lamb steak, two sauces, salmon and rice from a Persian rice cooker.

Easter Eve Dessert
We finished off this lovely meal with my mum's homemade orange cheese cake. :p

Now it is still a few hours left of Easter Eve here in Sweden, and I am sure I can find some more candy to enjoy the evening with. Hehe. By the way, I have written more about the origin of our Easter celebration and why we eat so much eggs during Easter in Sweden at --> Swedish Easter Eve Traditions.

Happy Easter everyone! :-)

A Mini Safari Moment
April 4, 2012 8:45 PM

As I drove into my mum's neighborhood today I saw a cat up in a tree outside one of the houses there. The cat had climbed up a little tree and was balancing around up there on some pretty thin branches. Of course also in the tree were two birds, crows I think, who were croaking very loudly at the cat. Now I am not sure, but I think the birds had a nest up there? So they were probably trying to keep the cat away from it, or they were simply messing with the cat.

Anyway, this whole scene looked pretty intriguing to me. So as soon as I saw it I immediately stopped my car, rolled down the car window and started to take photos of it with my phone. I mean, this is about as close to a "Safari Moment" as I can get here in Karlskrona in Sweden. And of course, below are some photos of my Mini Safari Moment earlier today.

And gently scouting around.

As well as protecting his/her prey.

Growl!!!

Sure felt like a little Safari Moment to meee. Now I am pretty sure nothing more than this actually happened up there though. Because when I drove by the same tree about ten minutes later, it was empty. No birds and no cat in sight.

Dog Falling Down Pose
April 1, 2012 5:11 PM

Yesterday on my walk with my dog Lisen I brought along my camera, just in case I would see anything fun to photograph. Of course I always think it is fun to take photos of Lisen, who is such a good doggie model. However, during one of her model poses on a bench yesterday Lisen miss judged where the edge was and accidently fell down... But she did not get hurt, in fact she just shook it off and instantly moved on to some serious sniffing on the ground. And because this happened very quickly I managed to capture a few shots of it all. So below are some photos of Lisen in a Dog Falling Down Pose.

Dog Falling Down Pose
Wou! What the...

Dog Falling Down Pose
Do not try this at home pups.

A few hundred meters later...

Dog Falling Down Pose
Ahh, this feels much better. :-)

But besides taking photos of Lisen yesterday I also took A LOT of other photos, which of course will be featured in future posts. By the way, we are having freezing temperatures here in Karlskrona in Sweden again. Yesterday it actually snowed when Lisen and I was on this walk. Brr!!! And colder temperatures and more snow is predicted to come...

Oh well, not much I can do about that - except to wear warmer clothes. :p Have a fabulous Sunday!
