Roadside party?
January 30, 2011 2:56 PM

It's a lovely sunny day here in Lyckeby today. The birds are singing outside and I feel like spring is just around the corner. It's one of those perfect days when I truly enjoy taking a long walk with Lisen. Which of course I did today. :-)

Now, I could just share pics of our beautiful surroundings, but I thought it would be more fun to see some other stuff we encounter on our walks. And today I could not help but notice a sort of theme of "There must have been a party somewhere around here last night.". Lol! Because there were all kinds of different beer cans and vodka bottles along the way. OK, not thaaat many. But still, more than usual in my opinion. So here are a few pics of a (my imaginary anyway) roadside party - the morning after.

Above pics: Some Pripps Blå and Special Brew. Below pics: A bottle of Meckstädter doppelkorn and one of Dworek vodka. Yihaaa!

And of course Lisen looks at me like I'm the weirdest person in the world while I'm taking all these pics. Lol! :p

YapTime - a safe and free private social groups service
January 28, 2011 3:10 PM

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of YapTime. All opinions are 100% mine.

So this is my first ever sponsored post. Yay! And it is all about YapTime. YapTime is a free social groups service where group members communicate via YapRooms. These are private rooms where you can share and discuss privately online with friends, family, teams and coworkers. YapTime is specifically designed for group sharing and communication in a private, secure online location.

It's super easy to sign up and create a YapRoom, I did it in just a few minutes. What I like most is that you don't have to hassle with verification codes or share private information, like birthdate, home address and so on. Just fill in your name, e-mail, username, choose password and you are done! And because YapTime has a nice, clean, simple layout everything loads quickly as well! Which is extremely nice.

Once you have created a YapRoom, it's time to invite whoever you want to join in. Unlike Facebook for example, YapTime is not a social networking site. So you don't have to worry about receiving "friend requests", have concerns about privacy or get newsfeeds sent to you. Strangers can never join your YapRoom. Which is why it is a perfect place to share photos, videos, conversations and calendars with family, friends, teams and coworkers.

So if you are looking for a quick loading, easy sign up, free and private social groups service, I would definitely give YapTime a go. Now this is a sponsored post, but all opinions are 100 % mine. And I would not recommend it if I had not tried it myself first. Enjoy!

Typical Swedish Food - any suggestions?
January 26, 2011 4:31 PM

At the moment I'm working on adding pages about Typical Swedish Food in my About Sweden category. I will create an individual page for each Typical Swedish Food where I write a bit about why we eat this in Sweden. I will also include some history and common ways we/I prepare and eat this Typical Swedish Food.

A few of my Typical Swedish Food choices include (starting from the top left pic); Falun sausage - Falukorv, Smoked pork sausage - Isterband, Pickled herring - Inlagd sill and Potato-dumplings - Kroppkakor.

I would love to know if there is any special food item or dish you associate with Sweden and want to find out more about? You are very welcome to share your thoughts and ideas with me in the comment section. All suggestions are highly appreciated! :-)

Duck
January 23, 2011 6:03 PM

Yesterday I cooked and ate duck for the first time ever in my life. I have wanted to taste it for quite some time now. Mainly because it seem to be very popular in all cooking shows on TV. Hehe.

And when it comes to the cooking part, well it was not that difficult. But even though I fried the duck breast in a frying pan, skin down, before and after its visit in the oven. I did not like the fatty skin. Something they always claim is so tasty when they eat it on TV. On the other hand, I don't like to eat fat on any kind of meat. I always cut it off.

So here it is, my duck dinner. I served the duck breast with a red wine sauce, plums, onions, boiled potatoes and boiled vegetables. With that I had a glass of red wine. And I must say, it was very, very delicious indeed! I will definitely eat duck again! Yum! :-p

I wish I was a dog sometimes
January 21, 2011 6:01 PM

Because dogs, like most animals, live in the moment all the time. Without too many thoughts or worries on their mind. At least that's how I perceive them. And it's so nice to simply live in the moment, though a bit more difficult for me to actually do. But I'm learning every day.

In the meantime I thought I'd share some pics of Lisen and Diva enjoying their doggy lives, and living in the moment. Doing some stuff I actually think would feel amazing to do myself, lol! But how would that look though...like I'm a lunatic perhaps? Lol!

The pics above are from yesterday when Lisen and I took a breather at some old castle ruins here in Lyckeby. As you can see, Lisen truly enjoyed herself. :-)

And these pics are from the forests of Rödeby earlier today. A visit Lisen and Diva also enjoyed every minute of, as did I. :-)

I wish you all a lovely weekend!

January 19, 2011 10:10 PM

Before I announce the winner I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to everyone who participated in my Swedish Giveaway! The total number of entries ended up at 32, which I think is awesome! :-) But earlier this evening it was finally time to pick a winner.

Like last time, I picked the winner in a live broadcast via my Ustream channel. And I have to say, even though everything might not be perfect in them, I really love making these live broadcasts. Hehe. The fact that had 3 viewers watching live in the end, made it even more fun - thank you! :-)

Below is a video of my Swedish Giveaway Drawing, recorded live about an hour ago. The winner is..

...ta da - Sugarmouse! Congratulations! My Giveaway questions were:

1. What country do you live in?

2. What do you love about the country you live in?

Sugarmouses answers:

"Answer 1: Malaysia

Answer 2: The fact that there is always a food stall open and operating at any time of the day! "

You can find Sugarmouses blog at melosophy.com

Once again, thank you!

Appreciation
January 18, 2011 3:18 PM

I had to get up super duper early today, about 5:30 AM, to drive my sister to the hospital. She was due for surgery to remove her gall bladder early this morning. Everything went well and she is feeling as good as one can directly after a surgery like that. Which was a relif for me to hear.

On my way home from the hospital these were my surroundings.

And I could really feel the beauty and calmness around me, like a big hug from Mother Nature. Which was definitely much needed today.

Happy Tulip Day
January 15, 2011 4:29 PM

Now I didn't detect any particular celebration going on around town today. But I thought I might as well enjoy this Saturday with some lovely tulips. And while I was buying them, there were a lot of other people who bought tulips as well. So if nothing else, I'm sure there is an increase in tulip sales today. Lol!

Actually, I almost never buy flowers for myself. But I did really feel like buying some today. And they do fill up the room with some well needed energy and life. Also now that I have traded Christmas decorations for tulips, my apartment feels a lot lighter and brighter. Very nice indeed. :-)

You can read more about why we celebrate Tulip Day in my previous post Tulip Day Huh?.

Tulip day, huh?
January 13, 2011 3:43 PM

When I was out walking with Lisen today we passed a flower shop which had this sign placed in front of it.

The text says that, apparently, it is tulip day this Saturday, huh? I had no idea such a day existed, or why? So when I got home I googled it, haha. And it turns out that this is the 21st year we celebrate tulip day in Sweden, the reason for our celebration is to welcome spring.

Now how on earth is this day celebrated then? Well, in some cities florist students hand out tulips to folks who pass them by. Another way to celebrate this day is to buy some tulips and give them to someone who might deserve some extra appreciation.

I also found these fun facts about our relationship with tulips:

- We Swedes are actually "world champions" when it comes to buying tulips. We buy 1 million tulips a day between January and Easter.

- In total we decorate our homes with about 120 million tulips every year!

- And there are about 6000 different tulips in the world, with approximately 400 varieties which are grown in Sweden between January and April, also known as the tulip season.

So I guess tulips are a big deal in Sweden, haha. Maybe I'll scout around town this Saturday to see if I can score some free tulips then, hehe. ;-)

Time for a Swedish giveaway! (CLOSED)
January 10, 2011 0:34 AM

I thought it was about time I had another Swedish giveaway! Yay! Like last time, the prizes will consist of some Swedish treats and a personal gift from me. I will pick the winner in a live broadcast via my Ustream channel on Wednesday January 19th, I will be back with the exact time later.

These are the prizes:

- Napkins with Swedish flag motive
- Four wooden butter knives
- A car air freshner with Swedish motive
- Swedish crispbread
- Some popular Swedish candy; three different kinds of salt liquorice candy, Ahlgrens bilar   and Peppermint Rock Candy - polkagris
- Our traditional Christmas drink, Glögg
- A postcard with motives from my hometown Karlskrona
- And my personal gift, spring water from Lyckeby

As for my personal gift. I wanted to give away something which has some sort of connection to this giveaway, as well as to me and where I live. And I was so excited when I got the idea to give away some water. Huh!? Well, just a few metres from where I live here in Lyckeby, is an old water pump. It has actually been here for centuries. And people still come to fetch water from it today, even though we can drink water directly from our taps. But this spring water is tasty and has a long history behind it, which I'm sure is why it is still frequently used. It is also why I thought it would be cool to give away some of this spring water from Lyckeby, Sweden.

Below are pics of the pump, as well as some history about it.

Top left pic: this is how close it is to my apartment. Top right pic: Some close ups. And below pic: an enlargement of the text which is written on the info board next to the pump.

And this is how I made my personal gift. I boiled a bottle in water, made labels, filled bottle with spring water, and voila - finito!

Giveaway rules!

Now to the most important part, HOW TO WIN these prizes! All you have to do is answer these two questions in a comment below.

1. What country do you live in?

2. What do you love about the country you live in?

My answers:

1. Sweden

2. I love that we can drink water straight from our taps here. We are very fortunate to be able to do that, something I definitely appreciate!

I look forward to your answers. :-)

Me and Lisen walking 6K in blizzard
January 7, 2011 1:38 AM

I had decided that me and Lisen were going to walk home after our visit with my sister yesterday. A walk of 6 kilometres, no problem. Except that I did not expect it to be windy and snowy! I probably should have checked the weather forecast beforehand... Oh well, I was not about to let some weather conditions interrupt my plan. Especially since I just downed a pizza, hehe. So away we went.

And here are some pics of our walk. :-)

Left top pic: That's the road to town, takes about 15 minutes to walk from here (Galgamarken). But Lyckeby is the opposite way though, 6Ks away... In the right top pic: Lisen telling me to hurry! Below left pic: This is the road to Lyckeby. Behind me is Galgamarken, where we started our walk, and on the other side of the road is a cemetery. The buildings even further away, behind the cemetery, is our hospital. And in the below right pic: Lisen probably thinking that we have a long way to go...

Pose!

I'm forcing Lisen to sit and be a nice doggy, haha. My goal here is to take at least one nice pic of us, but she just wants to check out our surroundings all the time. Don't know what could possibly be more fun than posing for the camera, haha.

Come ooon!!!

Top pic: At last she gets to walk in her own pace. Bottom pic: Although not completely her own pace. Because she still stops and waits for me whenever I stop. And I can see how she just wants to scream "Let's goooooooooo Alex!" every time. Haha!

In the end our walk took about 90 minutes. And when we finally got home, we were both pretty wet and tired!

Pizza and V
January 5, 2011 9:54 PM

I have the rest of the week off work, yay! So I thought I'd celebrate with pizza and the season premiere of the tv series V. Which was awesome! So was the pizza, hehe.

My pizza and V. :-)

Now I loved the original tv series V and I was a bit sceptical of the remake. Mainly because of the fact that other remakes of old tv series, like Melrose Place, had been less than ok. Even though the first few episodes of V barely made me keep watching, towards the end of season one it really started to pick up in quality. And the season premiere of season two was great! Especially the ending!!! I want to see more now!!! Haha.

Below is a short clip of V, with a recap of season one and a preview of season two. And if you want to you can read more about V here.

Hello 2011
January 2, 2011 9:19 PM

For me the beginning of something, especially a new year, is full of possibilities, hope and nervous excitement. Mainly because anything can happen, or nothing. Some years have just come and gone without leaving any special imprint in my life. Whereas others have been filled with life changing events.

As for 2010, it will be remembered in my heart as the year when I truly started to go after, and working hard on, achieving what I desire out of life. And I must say that I am proud of myself. Mostly because I have managed to keep myself focused, on track and continued with what I've started. Like this blog for example. It is by far one of the best things I started on during 2010! :-)

Now my plan for 2011 is to continue on this path I'm on. Because I feel like I'm on the right one. However I do need to work on keeping calm and relaxed whenever I find myself wanting too much too fast. As well as remember to have faith in the process of life. Luckily my initial feeling during the transition from 2010-2011 was that this will be a good year. Also the word "calm" popped up in my head. If that means it is how I should keep myself during 2011, or if it is how 2011 will be for me, remains to be seen? But I have decided that "calm" will be my motto for 2011.
