Fun in the forest
December 4, 2010 4:21 PM

We (me, my sister and dogs) finally managed to take a walk in our lovely forest of Rödeby yesterday. It was probably two weeks since we went for a real forest walk with both Lisen and Diva. We made plans several times to go, but each time something came up and we had to cancel. But yesterday away we went. And I don't even have to tell you how happy our dogs were to see their precious forest again (just check out the pics below, hihi). The fact that the forest was filled with snow up to their stomachs, only made it more fun :-p

Pics from yesterday.

We were a tired bunch afterwards, dogs and humans! :-)

Winter wonderland, and dog
December 1, 2010 5:18 PM

Snow, snow, snow and...yes that's right - more snow! It just keeps on coming. So I thought I'd share some pics of Lyckeby covered in snow, and Lisen covered in snow :-) Not that Lisen mind the snow. Well, she does not like it when she get cramps in her legs or when snowballs get stuck under her paws, but besides that, she enjoys the snow.

Because Lisen has the dog breed New foundland in her, who originally lived in cold weather, her fur is adapted to withstand cold temperatures. And the main reason she has a jacket on is because last year we found out that she has a bit of plaque between some of her vertebras. Therefore our Vet suggested I put a jacket on her to insure she stays warm, which helps prevent her from getting inflammation in her back. But when she was younger she use to love jumping in the ice cold water and swim. And when she got up, her fur use to freeze into ice. Brrr!

Here are the pics.

Cold yet ;-)

Wet, pondering doggy walk
November 21, 2010 1:50 PM

First of all, I am glad to have Lisen back home with me again. Because I've been working a lot lately she has stayed at my mums during the week. Hopefully next week will be a bit calmer so she can stay home with me :-)

Like most of this week, I woke up to a rainy and grey morning. And because Lisen has been sleeping most of the weekend, she doesn't sleep very well away from home, I've been taking a bit shorter walks than usual with her. Today I thought a little walk in our local forest would be a perfect Sunday refresher.

And here are some pics from today. Lisen seemed to have a lot on her mind... Looking around and pondering.

Now she is, yet again, sound a sleep next to me in the couch. I don't know, maybe her age is starting to show more and more (she turns 10 in March 2011). Or it's just this dark and gloomy season that affects her? Whatever it is, she sure sleeps a lot...

Horses, hm...
October 25, 2010 2:43 PM

This pic is from our morning walk today, and on this particular walk we pass a lot of horses. And I agree with Lisen. Horses are nice to look at, from a comfortable distance.

I did actually ride horses when I was 7-8 years old, but after an incident when I felt I had no control over the horse I rode on. I refused to continue. And I still feel a bit unsure around horses. Maybe Lisen picks it up from me, I don't know? But she also feel most comfortable with a few metres between them and her.

But they are beautiful creatures indeed, and fun to watch. Because they have such strong personalities. And who knows, maybe someday I'll get my butt back on a horse...you never know?

Sunny Sunday walk with funky smells
October 17, 2010 7:00 PM

It has been a lovely fall day here in Karlskrona today. And this morning Lisen and I went on a long wonderful walk. Lisen is so attentive! When I stopped to take some pics, she immediately knew that I was not really paying attention to what she was doing. So of course she took this opportunity to sniff up something disgusting to rub herself in. Yuck!!! Good thing she was in a leash, and I could pull her away before she got that "doggie perfume" all over her.

Aw, she looks sooo innocent in the first pic. But then, sneaky Lisen appears! And in the rest of the pics you can see how she sniffs her way to, whatever it was she found? You might think I would notice that she sniffed up something disgusting, but it all happened so fast. Boom, and she was rubbing away. I don't even know how I managed to snap this pic...Naughty dog!

Playing around in pebbles
October 11, 2010 1:04

We spent this weekend house sitting at my mums; my sister, Lisen, Diva and I. My mum is always planting new stuff and rearranging in her garden. And at the moment there is an area filled with pebbles in it, which is to be filled with stone slabs later. This little pebbles area is apparently insanely fun to play around in, according to Lisen and Diva. Because that's where they spent pretty much all their time when they were outside in the garden...I would think grass is nicer to wrestle in, and dirt more fun to bury things is, but nope. Pebbles beats them both, LOL!

Here are some pics of Lisen and Divas weekend in "pebbles world".

I don't know why Lisen insists on burying, whatever she is burying, in front of everyone...? She always does that! And yeah, Diva has no idea where you hid it, LOL!

They love doing this, inside the house as well as out. But in pebbles...yes, I guess in pebbles as well.

My lovely dogs
September 27, 2010 14:22

Ok, both are not mine but Diva (who is Lisens daughter) in the right pic, feels like she is mine as well. Even though technically she is my sisters. Us four hang out quite a lot, in the left pic Lisen and me are waiting for them to pick us up for a walk in the forest. However, to get Diva into this world was not an easy task...

C-section
Lisen was 4 years old when she had her puppies. When it was time for Lisen to give birth, she simply would not do it naturally! Typical Lisen, always wants it her own way... I had to drive her, my sister, mum and two friends, in the middle of the night to a Vet station 1,5 hours away. The Vet gave her medicine to try and induce labour so she could deliver on her own, but nope not Lisen. Finally the Vet decided to do a c-section.

Will she make it?
We waited and waited, the Vet had told us that they would come out with the pups as soon as they were delivered. But it took a lot longer the she had said, so we got really worried something had gone wrong. I was so nervous and anxious, and there were a ton of thoughts running through my head. We had decided to let Lisen have pups because we knew she would be an excellent mum and wanted her to have that experience. But now, was it really worth it? What if something went wrong and she didn't come out of this alive...

What!?

At last, the Vet assistant came to us, and in his hand he had a box with six black pups. Ah, we thought there would be a few more but six, ok. And then he said, "I'll go and get the other box for you", ehhh whua!? " Here you go", he said. And in that brown box, another six puppies!!! Yiax! We had to rub them to make sure the kept breathing, however one just didn't have the strength. After about an hour we got to see Lisen, who was very groggy and didn't understand anything. We showed her the puppies but she was uninterested and didn't want to have anything to do with them.

Exhausted

I drove us all home, and at home Lisen just went off and laid down. A bit of a panic arouse within us. How on earth are we going to take care of these 11 puppies without Lisen!? It was an intense sleepless next 24 hours of making sure the newborns were ok. And considering the previous 24 hours had been sleepless as well, we were all pretty exhausted. I had to work during this time, so my sister did most of the care taking.

Best mum ever!

Finally, 24 hours after Lisens c-section, Madde (my sister) told me that Lisen came to her, when she had a puppy in her hand, and was a bit curious. She still didn't understand that the puppy was hers. But Madde put a drop of puppy pee on Lisens nose (yes, sound gross, lol) but as soon as Lisen licked it, it was like a light bulb went off in her head. And after that moment she was the best mum ever! Thank God for that! I know that we, three people, could never have done such an amazing job with them as she did. It was a joy and unforgettable experience to watch her take care of those 11, very demanding, pups. And one of them, Diva, never really left the nest :-)

The summer of 2005 was all about puppies, LOL! Busy and oh so fun! To see more pics and find out more about Lisens life visit her own blog at lisen.eu

Head in a bag
September 5, 2010 23:20

This is what I've been doing the last few nights...

and by I, I mean me - Alexandra, haha. Just thought Lisen would look more charming with her head in the crisp bag than me :-)

Finally relaunch, yay!
August 31, 2010 21:00

It took many hours and many different layouts before I finally decided to keep it almost like it was before... I have added many pages, most of them under "Categories". If you want to link to me, I now have a whole page devoted to that, haha. But I have made most changes in the code, hopefully I have managed to get it a bit more SEO friendly?

Moving on to Lisen. She is now over believing she is pregnant, and back to her happy self. Which I think this pic, taken today, demonstrates quite well :-)

By the way, for all of you who have seen my old layout, I would love to hear your opinions on this one compared to the old. Improvement or not? And if anyone find errors, like broken links and so on, I'd appreciate feedback.

Blog changes and fake pups…
August 23, 2010 19:45

I have been working hard on social networking to get visitors to my blog, I have also gotten advice on how to improve my blog from some of them. I always take constructive criticism seriously and if I feel there are some valid points - I make changes! How else can you possibly grow and develop? I have also gotten a lot of positive feedback, which I sincerely appreciate and value :-)

Besides being back at my day job and working on implementing my blog changes, I have been dealing with a dog who thinks she is pregnant. Lisen always gets like this after every heat cycle, it lasts for two months, and now she is in the last phase of her "pregnancy".

Along with loss of appetite comes constant whining and digging around to make a perfect little place for her to have her pups. She looks so sad and confused, but I know it’s perfectly normal so I just let her be.

But still, sometimes I just can't resist those eyes and simply have to give her a cuddle!
