A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
February 3, 2014 6:53 PM

Finally we got some REAL snow here in Lyckeby in Sweden! And by "real snow" I mean snow where your feet sink through it when you walk in it. However, it did not last for very long (most of it has already melted away...). But, I managed to take my beloved doggy Lisen out to the Rodeby forest this Saturday morning so we could (both) play around and properly enjoy the snow while it lasted.

And what an adventure we had! I do not know who had more fun, or was more tired after that walk, Lisen or I..? Lol! I did a snowman experiment on Lisen, Lisen rolled around and tracked in the snow almost the entire time and we encountered lots of odd little snow figures. Of course I snapped a ton of shots of our escapado, below are some of those photos from our adventures in the local Rodeby forest here in Sweden this Saturday! ;p

SNOW!!! Lisen always make sure it is safe for me to tag along. :-)

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Whops..? Hm.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Aww. She just felt like take one (of her several) snow baths.

Roll.

Rub.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Relax.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
She so LOVES this!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Now time to jump!!!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Come on! Jump!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Aaaaaa! :p

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Come on Alex, play with me!? Jump!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Hm, the snow was quite deep so not as easy for me to run around, or jump, in it like for Lisen. I am not very well trained at the moment neither, hehe. ;-) Phew!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
But I amused myself with photographing odd snow figures in the forest while Lisen ran around. Hm, looks like some kind of small fox..?

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Swan or duck.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Well, not the best time to drop these in the middle of the winter...Major cold hands! Ouch! But maybe the branches were happy about getting some extra heat on them. ;p Hehe.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Snowman.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Lisen was not impressed nor interested of him at all, at first.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
But after a few minutes, and me nagging her to have a look...

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
She finally checked him out, slowly.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Sniff, sniff.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Hm?

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
I knew it! Not real!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Who does she think I am that Alex? No fool - that is for sure, no missy!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Was that supposed to be fun? Yes babe, I thought it was hilarious. Lol! ;p That is how easily amused I am.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Now this looked like a real forest monster!

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Aaaaa! :o

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow FiguresA Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
I also tried to capture snowy trees from different angles, which meant I had to lay down in the snow.

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Snow Snakes...

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
Come on now, Alex...

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
But I wanted to take a selfie with her first, worked so so. Lol! ;p At least we are both in the photo. :-)

A Forest Escapade With A Snowman Experiment And Odd Snow Figures
And so the walk was over, time to go home...

Hope to see some spring weather soon now, because I personally have had my share of winter and snow/mainly rain for this season - not sure Lisen agree with me though. But we will just have to wait and see what Mother Nature has in store for us. She is da Boss Lady after all! ;-)

Have A Great Week Y'all!! :-)

Seven Fun Things To Do When You Are Snowed In
January 6, 2014 5:42 PM

The temperature has dropped below freezing, you can barely open the door, and when you look out the front window the world is covered in a blanket of white. Your first reaction may be to panic; you feel that first wave of cabin fever roll in and you’re asking yourself what is there to do. The great news is that this is the ideal time to relax and warm-up in the comfort of your own home.

After days of running around and meeting deadlines, being wrapped in a cocoon of snow is a gift… it’s time to be creative! The following seven ideas can help you get started.

Seven Fun Things To Do When You Are Snowed In Seven Fun Things To Do When You Are Snowed In

One - Bake cookies and listen to music: Whether it’s Enya or heavy metal, baking to music is a great way to warm up the heart and the home.  For a couple of days, don’t worry about calories; bake delicious homemade cookies, muffins, and simmer a big pot of soup. If you find yourself at home with little ones, they can join in the fun. Alternatively, plan a romantic candle-lit dinner for two: serve homemade bread, stew, a bottle of wine, and hot pastries for dessert.

Two - Play a game or watch a series: How long has it been since you’ve had the time to sit and watch season reruns of your favorite show or great movie sequels? “Star Wars”, “The Godfather”, and the “Lord of the Rings” are just a few possibilities. Board games and online casino-games also provide hours of entertainment. Cozy up with a quilt, a bowl of popcorn, play instant casino games, and enjoy your time off. Time will fly while you’re having fun playing games!

Three - Express your gratitude: Research shows that the happiest people are those who express gratitude. Spend a few hours on the phone calling loved ones; let them know just how much you appreciate them. Write emails, thank-you notes, and old-fashioned letters. Don’t be afraid to express your heartfelt feelings. And while you’re at it, this is a good time to delete toxic people from your contact list and… move on!

Four: Get organized: Speaking of clearing out. What better time to organize shelves, drawers, and cabinets.  Use the snow days to clear closet of clothing that just isn’t right for you anymore, then bring in something new.

Five: Explore your creative side: Get out that favorite hobby, or start learning a brand new craft. Why not knit, sketch, or paint? If you aren’t the artistic type, how about pulling out that great novel you’ve been longing to start, or finish. Snuggle up in bed with a hot-water bottle, a cup of tea, and get into a really good book.

Six: Feel healthy: Dance, meditate, or do some yoga… if you feel like exercising but can’t venture outside, put on your workout clothes and start moving. This may also be the right time to set some health goals for the New Year.

Seven Fun Things To Do When You Are Snowed In

Seven: Pamper yourself: Give yourself a spa treatment. Linger in a hot bathtub, use those bath salts and creams that normally get pushed to the back shelf, light a candle, and relish the warmth of a steam filled room. Use a masque, shave your legs, highlight your hair… then enjoy a “professional” manicure.

Being snowed in is the perfect time to relax and have fun. Whether you’re alone, with your loved one, or managing a house full of small children, there’s something for everyone to do. You’ll find yourself happy, relaxed, feeling and looking great… and ready to take on that next blizzard!

For The Love Of Snow
March 1, 2013 1:58 PM

My dog Lisen and I have been on quite a few walks in the snowy weather here in Karlskrona in Sweden the past few weeks. And because I Iove to photograph I have taken quite a few photos during these walks. So in this post I thought I would share some of those snowy photos, I give you - For The Love Of Snow.

Lisen and I love to walk here, we usually walk on the other side of the river though.

Yupp, Lisen wanted to carry her leash - as usual. Hehe.

Now although I do love snow, not nearly as much as Lisen though, I do look forward to spring with its lovely colours, brightness and warmth. So hopefully it will not be too long until she arrives again. But until she does, Lisen and I will simply continue to enjoy our snowy walks. Because, although we have had a few sunny, lovely days here lately, it does seem like the snow will linger on a little while longer.

The Snowflake Symphony
February 20, 2013 1:22 PM

The snow keeps on coming down here in Lyckeby in Sweden. And all winter I have been trying to get some good photos of individual snowflakes, which has not been very easy in my world, but this morning I think I finally got a few good ones. Again, as I did when I spotted the deer a few weeks ago, I just happened to glance out of my window when I noticed some snowflakes caught in spider web. I immediately grabbed my camera and started to shoot. Below are the results; The Snowflake Symphony.

Happy Doggies Playing In The Snow
December 20, 2012 2:49 PM

Last week my dog Lisen and her daughter Diva (my sister's dog) decided to play around in the snow together for a little while. I always love to watch them play together, though Lisen (who turns 12 in March) is rarely in the mood to play with Diva (7 years old) nowadays. I think she thinks Diva is a bit to wild for her now. Hehe. Because Lisen likes to play, but in slow motion and very carefully - the opposite of how Diva likes to play. So when Lisen decided to actually accept Diva's play invitation in the forest last week, I think Diva was as surprised (but very happy) as I was. :-)

Below are some pics I snapped of them playing in the snow together.

A Perfect Snowy Advent Premiere In Lyckeby
December 2, 2012 7:02 PM

It is now officially winter here in Lyckeby in Sweden! Because yesterday evening snow began to fall over Lyckeby, which resulted in me waking up this morning to a crispy, cold and snowy white view over Ekebacken Nature Reserve from my window. And the snow could not have arrived more perfectly, just in time to make this first Advent Sunday of four before Christmas feel extra Christmas like. In other words, Lisen and I had A Perfect Snowy Advent Premiere here in Lyckeby today.

And below are some pics from our first walk in the snow this morning.

Which is true, December is definitely a fun and delicious month in Sweden indeed. So here's to the start of this year's Advent season, to a great start to this year's Christmas season and to a fabulous snowy December month! Happy First Advent Everyone!

Trying To Catch Up
February 16, 2012 1:33 PM

It feels like I am still trying to catch up with things from when I got back from my vacation in January. The main reason I am so behind with everything is because I have been working 10-12 hours almost every day since January 20th. There have been some changes at the company I work for so I have been asked to do other things than before, hence more work. However I am very grateful for that and I do hope I continue to get more work. Although it does feel weird not to be able to spend as much time in the Blogosphere as I am used to.

But, I, my blog and dog Lisen are not going anywhere. We are just in a more random post period right now. I truly appreciate all comments and feedback as always and will catch up with it all as soon as I get a bit longer breather than a few hours, which I think will be after this weekend.

Now while I have been swamped with work, a lot more snow has fallen outside. Which I love! Because with the snow comes a sense of calmness and light I feel , something very well needed at the moment. And because I work from home the only breaks I really get is when I take my dog Lisen out on walks, which is also the only time I have had lately with an opportunity to take some photos. So below are some recent photos of my neighbourhood here in Lyckeby in Sweden. :-)

Always extra fun to sniff in the snow it seems.

Me and Lisen walking 6K in blizzard
January 7, 2011 1:38 AM

I had decided that me and Lisen were going to walk home after our visit with my sister yesterday. A walk of 6 kilometres, no problem. Except that I did not expect it to be windy and snowy! I probably should have checked the weather forecast beforehand... Oh well, I was not about to let some weather conditions interrupt my plan. Especially since I just downed a pizza, hehe. So away we went.

And here are some pics of our walk. :-)

Left top pic: That's the road to town, takes about 15 minutes to walk from here (Galgamarken). But Lyckeby is the opposite way though, 6Ks away... In the right top pic: Lisen telling me to hurry! Below left pic: This is the road to Lyckeby. Behind me is Galgamarken, where we started our walk, and on the other side of the road is a cemetery. The buildings even further away, behind the cemetery, is our hospital. And in the below right pic: Lisen probably thinking that we have a long way to go...

Pose!

I'm forcing Lisen to sit and be a nice doggy, haha. My goal here is to take at least one nice pic of us, but she just wants to check out our surroundings all the time. Don't know what could possibly be more fun than posing for the camera, haha.

Come ooon!!!

Top pic: At last she gets to walk in her own pace. Bottom pic: Although not completely her own pace. Because she still stops and waits for me whenever I stop. And I can see how she just wants to scream "Let's goooooooooo Alex!" every time. Haha!

In the end our walk took about 90 minutes. And when we finally got home, we were both pretty wet and tired!

White Christmas
December 23, 2010 11:57 AM

I can't believe it's actually Christmas Eve tomorrow! It feels weird. Like I'm about one week behind. Oh well, no matter how I twist and turn it's still December 24th tomorrow, hehe. So, I'd better get with the programme. And I can't even describe how much I look forward to all the food!!! Yuuuummy! However I still have some gift shopping to do...yikes! And besides that I have to clean, both my apartment and dog. So today is going to be a busy day for me.

But before I get started, me and Lisen want to wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Here is Lisen on our morning walk today. It has been snowing heavily during the night and will continue to do so today and tomorrow. We are supposed to get about 30 more! centimeters of snow. So we will definitely have a white Christmas in Karlskrona this year.

Fun in the forest
December 4, 2010 4:21 PM

We (me, my sister and dogs) finally managed to take a walk in our lovely forest of Rödeby yesterday. It was probably two weeks since we went for a real forest walk with both Lisen and Diva. We made plans several times to go, but each time something came up and we had to cancel. But yesterday away we went. And I don't even have to tell you how happy our dogs were to see their precious forest again (just check out the pics below, hihi). The fact that the forest was filled with snow up to their stomachs, only made it more fun :-p

Pics from yesterday.

We were a tired bunch afterwards, dogs and humans! :-)

Winter wonderland, and dog
December 1, 2010 5:18 PM

Snow, snow, snow and...yes that's right - more snow! It just keeps on coming. So I thought I'd share some pics of Lyckeby covered in snow, and Lisen covered in snow :-) Not that Lisen mind the snow. Well, she does not like it when she get cramps in her legs or when snowballs get stuck under her paws, but besides that, she enjoys the snow.

Because Lisen has the dog breed New foundland in her, who originally lived in cold weather, her fur is adapted to withstand cold temperatures. And the main reason she has a jacket on is because last year we found out that she has a bit of plaque between some of her vertebras. Therefore our Vet suggested I put a jacket on her to insure she stays warm, which helps prevent her from getting inflammation in her back. But when she was younger she use to love jumping in the ice cold water and swim. And when she got up, her fur use to freeze into ice. Brrr!

Here are the pics.

Cold yet ;-)

Footsteps in the snow
November 26, 2010 6:19 PM

This is something I love about snow, I can so clearly see where all wild animals have wandered. Usually when Lisen is sniffing around and pulling me in all kind of directions, I have no idea why. Now I can see why :-) Not that that makes her sniffing marathons more enjoyable for me though, LOL!

In the pics above are some footsteps we have encountered yesterday and today. And then one pic of Lisen shaking her booty, lol! I just had to post that one :-p

Late night walk in snow storm
November 24, 2010 0:12 AM

The first snow has officially landed in Lyckeby, Karlskrona. And not in a soft, calm manner. But with the forces of strong winds and freezing cold. It is now winter... Unfortunately for me I have not yet changed my summer tires to winter tires, so no driving tomorrow. Oh well, when the snow has settled, it is actually quite nice :-) Maybe I'll throw some snowballs at Lisen tomorrow, lol!

New feature
I have added a new comment feature, you can now comment on each post. I still have my cbox a bit further down. I would love to know what you think about this way of commenting. It's probably how it works on most blogs. I just don't like that you have to be moved to another page for it to work...But maybe it's better than just a cbox?
