|Seven Fun Things To Do When You Are Snowed In

The temperature has dropped below freezing, you can barely open the door, and when you look out the front window the world is covered in a blanket of white. Your first reaction may be to panic; you feel that first wave of cabin fever roll in and you’re asking yourself what is there to do. The great news is that this is the ideal time to relax and warm-up in the comfort of your own home.
After days of running around and meeting deadlines, being wrapped in a cocoon of snow is a gift… it’s time to be creative! The following seven ideas can help you get started.
One - Bake cookies and listen to music: Whether it’s Enya or heavy metal, baking to music is a great way to warm up the heart and the home. For a couple of days, don’t worry about calories; bake delicious homemade cookies, muffins, and simmer a big pot of soup. If you find yourself at home with little ones, they can join in the fun. Alternatively, plan a romantic candle-lit dinner for two: serve homemade bread, stew, a bottle of wine, and hot pastries for dessert.
Two - Play a game or watch a series: How long has it been since you’ve had the time to sit and watch season reruns of your favorite show or great movie sequels? “Star Wars”, “The Godfather”, and the “Lord of the Rings” are just a few possibilities. Board games and online casino-games also provide hours of entertainment. Cozy up with a quilt, a bowl of popcorn, play instant casino games, and enjoy your time off. Time will fly while you’re having fun playing games!
Three - Express your gratitude: Research shows that the happiest people are those who express gratitude. Spend a few hours on the phone calling loved ones; let them know just how much you appreciate them. Write emails, thank-you notes, and old-fashioned letters. Don’t be afraid to express your heartfelt feelings. And while you’re at it, this is a good time to delete toxic people from your contact list and… move on!
Four: Get organized: Speaking of clearing out. What better time to organize shelves, drawers, and cabinets. Use the snow days to clear closet of clothing that just isn’t right for you anymore, then bring in something new.
Five: Explore your creative side: Get out that favorite hobby, or start learning a brand new craft. Why not knit, sketch, or paint? If you aren’t the artistic type, how about pulling out that great novel you’ve been longing to start, or finish. Snuggle up in bed with a hot-water bottle, a cup of tea, and get into a really good book.
Six: Feel healthy: Dance, meditate, or do some yoga… if you feel like exercising but can’t venture outside, put on your workout clothes and start moving. This may also be the right time to set some health goals for the New Year.
Seven: Pamper yourself: Give yourself a spa treatment. Linger in a hot bathtub, use those bath salts and creams that normally get pushed to the back shelf, light a candle, and relish the warmth of a steam filled room. Use a masque, shave your legs, highlight your hair… then enjoy a “professional” manicure.
Being snowed in is the perfect time to relax and have fun. Whether you’re alone, with your loved one, or managing a house full of small children, there’s something for everyone to do. You’ll find yourself happy, relaxed, feeling and looking great… and ready to take on that next blizzard!
